Timber research explored the use of timber in building construction industry as one of the most important material in construction. Timber is the only building material that properly use positively benefits the plants and our relationship to it. And this study is to assess the problems and prospects of timber as an external material in building production in hot climates climate and to determine the various problems and prospects of timber in building the external parts of the building. And also to determine the functions of timber in building production to evaluate the quantity of wood used by the contractors as external material in building production and to achieve the natural quantity of timber as a building material i.e. aesthetes. The researcher in this study used the descriptive survey research design in order to simplify and understand the complex issue concerning the work which employed the use of questionnaire personal interview and observation in the collection of data. It is noted that it is the poor seasoned untreated and unpreserved timber supplied to builders in site which gives room to most defects which affects timber in building. Low cost buildings should be constructed with timber. Timber frames has many supporters especially because of its quick erection. Timber structures have been with us for time memorial it is still with us and the option our present generation has to research more into how the material can be used for effect to bring down the high cost of building material in Nigeria natural movement due to shrinkage. If shelter for all by the year 2015 is to be realized the use of timber in building should be highly encouraged
